Animal Aid, Inc. of Portland Oregon Upcoming Events for Animal Aid Supporters and Volunteers

I ordered my tickets earlier – how and when do I get my tickets?

Answer:  For all orders received by September 14th (one week before the event) tickets will be mailed to the address you provide. Past that date, the tickets will be held at "will-call" the night of the event. We cannot take any online ticket orders after 5pm on Friday 9/19. Tickets ordered before the cutoff will be available at "will-call". Tickets will also be available at the door.

How much of what I spend is tax deductible?

Answer:   $20.00 the cost of each ticket may be considered as tax-deductible donation. We will print this on the ticket, as it will also serve as your receipt. The scrip purchase is not tax-deductible, nor is money spent at the auction.

Can I win money?

Answer:  Sorry, no – all money goes to support the animals. But you can win some pretty fantastic prizes donated by our sponsors! Here's how it works:

  • As you turn in your Bet for Pets ticket stub at the door, you will be given a raffle ticket along with your first $10 in scrip. Then, for every $50 in casino scrip/chips you have accumulated at the end of the evening, you will get one raffle ticket.
  • All participants then put their tickets in the raffle jars of just those items that tickle their fancy. This way, when the raffle tickets are drawn for each prize, the pool of potential winners is limited to people who actually want that prize.
  • In addition, there will be prizes you can bid on (yes, real money this time) in a both a Live and a Silent Auction.
  • And last but not least, everyone who remembers to fill out the contact information on their Casino Night ticket stub with will be eligible for door prize drawings throughout the evening.

Raffle participants need not be present to win as long as they put their name and phone number or admission ticket number on the back of each raffle ticket so that we have a way of contacting them to notify them that they won a prize. If an absentee name is called we will phone the winner the following week to come to the office to claim the prize.

Auction participants will need to be present to win. When the Auction closes, the winning names will be posted on an easel in the auction area. Winners should then visit the cashier and pay for their item by 10:10 when the game prize raffle drawing will begin.

And what are these prizes? There is a wonderful assortment, limited only by the imaginations of our donors. The list is growing daily, so check back often. CLICK HERE for the latest listing of prizes.

What exactly is a "Silent Auction"?

Answer:  At a Silent Auction there is no fast-talking auctioneer presenting the items one by one – bidding is done quietly throughout the evening, participants writing their bids (and counter-bids) on the bid-sheet of the prize they hope to win. Each offering will have its own fact sheet in front of it giving (a) its fair market value, (b) the base amount to start bidding (in our case, that base amount is set to about 25% of the actual value), (c) the increments for subsequent bids, and (d) a Buy Now! price of 120% of the actual value for folks who can't stand the suspense. Using the week in Sun River as an example:

Actual Value – $2,348
Starting Bid – $587
Increments for subsequent bids – $100
Buy Now! – $2,917

Silent Auction participants must be present to win, because their payment must be confirmed. When the Silent Auction closes, the winning names will be posted on an easel in the auction area. Winners should then visit the cashier and pay for their item by 10:10 when the game prize raffle drawing will begin.

And what will be up for auction, you ask? CLICK HERE for the latest listing.

What is scrip and how do I use it?

Answer:  Scrip is the "funny money" used for all the gaming. You start the evening with $10 in casino scrip, plus one Lucky Buck, due to you as part of your ticket purchase. For the rest of the evening scrip will be available in Casino Fun Paks in denominations of $10, $20, $50, $100, $200. Each Fun Pak includes scrip, Lucky Bucks, etc. in an amount much greater than the monetary purchase price – and as you can see from the chart below, there is a significant advantage to buying one larger package rather than multiple small ones:

  • Beginners Luck – $10 = $20 in Casino scrip, and 1 Lucky Buck
  • Pit Boss Special – $20 = $50 in Casino scrip, 1 Ace-in-the-Hole Coupon, and 2 Lucky Bucks
  • The Jackpot – $50 = $150 in Casino scrip, 2 Ace-in-the-Hole Coupon, and 4 Lucky Bucks
  • High Roller – $100 = $400 in Casino scrip, 4 Ace-in-the-Hole Coupon, and 6 Lucky Bucks
  • Royal Flush – $200 = $1000 in Casino scrip, 6 Ace-in-the-Hole Coupon, and 8 Lucky Bucks
Instructions on how to use each form of gaming coupon will be explained during the evening and in a brochure that will be given to each participant at the door.  While all income from the sale of the scrip Fun Paks goes directly to support the animals, it is not tax deductible
