Outreach
"Outreach" is the term we use to describe visits by small teams of volunteers who visit locations outside the shelter. Typically they bring one or more of our more laid-back animals who are comfortable meeting strangers, but these are not really adoption events – one look at our adoption policy will show you that we put much more time than an afternoon into helping match pet to family. Outreach events are opportunities to introduce ourselves and our programs to new people.
Usually the team brings a table display of literature describing our programs. If appropriate, we set up our "Wheel of Chance" at $1.00 a spin (every spin wins) to earn money for our programs.
We have been invited into classrooms, to holiday occasions, and to pet-oriented events like the annual NW Pet and Companion Fair. If you have an event you would like us to attend, please contact us well in advance – our ability to attend depends entirely on our volunteers' schedules.
Current outreach schedule:
- Portland Community College (PCC) Sylvania Community Service Fair, November 5 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
- Western Pet Supply on the third Saturday of each month – CLICK HERE to learn more about this.
