Who is Animal Aid?Animal Aid is a nonprofit, no-kill, animal rescue and outreach organization serving the Portland Metro area since 1969. Our mission is to reduce animal birth rates and suffering through education, assistance to community members who cannot afford urgent veterinary care, and finding permanent homes for animals (some with special needs) in our care. We house cats in our free-roam shelter and dogs in loving foster homes. Animal Aid helps in areas not covered by other tri-county agencies. We are supported primarily through donations which, because we are a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Animal Aid in the CommunityAnimal Aid and its volunteers actively support other animal welfare groups in the Portland Metro area: |

ATTENTION!Do you or your neighbors have sheds or other infrequently used storage areas? PLEASE CHECK THEM REGULARLY. We are now in the season when chilly, disoriented cats seek shelter and accidentally get shut in, sometimes for weeks. Here is our most recent true-life example from Portlanders during January 2012: "Cora is alive and well, though thinner, having spent two weeks in (and around?) our neighbor's packed-full garage. We looked there early on, due to the advice of websites. Our neighbor kept alert eventually found clear signs of a cat in residence. I took over food and a carrier. As we worked our way through the garage, we heard meows. I put down food, and out she came. Lessons learned: do heed the advice to look in nearby sheds and garages, do ask neighbors to be on the lookout." |
