Kiss Loneliness Good-bye!

More than just a fundraising campaign, this is a celebration of the very special relationship that can exist between rescued pet and adopter.

Why "Rescued Pets"?

Let's be honest – discarded animals are less likely to be the beauty queens of their species. Many would not even get a "Miss Congeniality" vote. They bear the trauma of their past openly on their bodies and silently in their spirits. So when a connection forms with a rescued pet, it means that a human has learned to look deeper, and has been moved in a way that can be profound and life-changing.

How Did This Work?

  • Participants entered by simply sending us their rescue story and photo.
  • The public then "voted" by making a donation of any size in honor of the story and picture that best captures the idea that there are two winners in a successful adoption, not just one. That tax-deductible donation will support the programs of Animal Aid, Inc.

All donations in honor of a rescue story were added to that story's Total Raised figure daily, and their Total Supporters count incremented. Thanks to kind sponsors, Animal Aid will award prizes for most funds raised, most individual donors, story that best captures the theme of the campaign, and best story from an Animal Aid "graduate".

The Final Chapter in the Saga of Shoo! and Lonelyheart

Lonelyheart's homeFrom April 15 through the end of June we tracked the total donations made in the campaign by following Shoo!, a discarded pet, in its difficult and frightening journey toward a safe haven with Lonelyheart, a human in need of a friend. Shoo! and Lonelyheart don't know it, but we have been listening in on their thoughts as they move about Portland. And June 30 is a particularly special day for both...

After three long days of hardly daring to believe, it's happened! I'm really home!

My foster mom popped me in the car and drove me to a house I'd never seen before - but I just knew it was the right place. SHE was right there, waiting on the front porch for me!

We went in and I explored everything - new bowls, new bed, new toys that I don't have to share with anybody - and, best of all, a new mom who needs me just as much as I need her. Life is good...

Happy Heart (formerly Lonelyheart): June 30 Lonelyheart

Dear Diary, Animal Aid approved my application!

Can you imagine my surprise when they delivered my new companion and the shelter had named him Stanley? What a perfect fit, like an old shoe.

Better yet, Ryan is visiting and after meeting Stanley, who he calls "G-Pa", Ryan tells me he has decided to take Veterinary Studies as his major in college. Somewhere Stan is smiling, and right here in our living room, Stanley is getting a well-earned belly rub. Life is good...
