My name is Grayson. When I first arrived at the shelter I was so outgoing and happy, everyone thought I'd be adopted right away. So did I. I was perfect -- young, good looking, friendly with people and other cats, playful, affectionate -- what's not to love?! Adopters passed me by thinking someone else would adopt me and, even if they didn't, they thought I seemed happy enough living in the shelter. Weeks turned into months, months turned into years: 1.5 years to be exact. I was one year old when I came to the shelter, so I've spent over half my life here.

At the beginning I was enthusiastic about everything. If someone petted me, I'd push my head into their hand and give them a hearty headbutt. I was very mellow and got along with everyone. But then one of the cats in the main room started picking on me, so they moved me to a smaller room. It was less stressful, but soon it got boring.

The volunteers tried to make my life more interesting. They'd shine a laser light on the wall and I was on it. Hey, where'd it go? It was there a second ago! And watch this movie of me attacking the videocam strap. Got it! It was ok when I was playing, but the rest of the time there wasn't much to do. I'd hang out with Prince. We had a good father:son relationship. As time passed, I got more and more lethargic and I hardly played at all. They brought me to the vet for a checkup and everything was ok. I was just sad that I didn't have a home.

Since there was a new mix of cats in the main room, they moved me back and I felt a renewed passion for life. There was lots more space to run around, more cats to play with and I made some new friends, like Bob. Sometimes it gets a little crazy. New cats come in and want to prove they're the boss. So if I give you a swat by mistake, please don't take it personally. Ooops! I didn’t know it was you!

So, that's my story so far. It's only the beginning. The real story will begin when someone makes me a part of their family.
