Our Heartstrings Program

Is there room in your heart, but not in your home? Consider donating to our Heartstrings program!

The Heartstrings program is a wonderful way to make an impact in the lives of our shelter animals. Many of our Heartstrings animals are long-time residents who are still waiting for their forever family. They may be senior pets getting passed by for the youngsters, formerly abused or neglected animals needing more tender loving care, shy pets requiring extra reassurance, or animals with medical or behavioral needs.

Sponsoring a Heartstrings pet can be a beautiful way to honor or memorialize a friend or family member, including your furry family. Your donation goes toward providing all of our animals with the best care while they wait for their forever homes.

Heartstrings FAQ

Does my sponsorship go to the care of just my chosen pet?

We want your donation to have the biggest impact possible, which is why your Heartstrings contribution is used to assist all of the animals in our care. Your kindness and generosity will benefit not only your chosen pet, but each one of our homeless animals while they wait to meet their forever family.

What does my sponsorship provide exactly?

All donations to our Heartstrings program go toward providing food, medicine, veterinary care, cat litter, grooming tools, and daily care for our animals, including a warm, safe, and comfortable place for your sponsored pet to live while awaiting adoption.

What do I get in return for a sponsorship in the Heartstrings program?

With a donation of $25 or more, you or your designated recipient will receive a personalized thank you card along with a postcard about your chosen pet. If you choose to make a recurring payment, in addition to the thank you card and postcard, we will send along periodic updates about your sponsored animal and the benefits that your donation is providing for all of our homeless animals.

Can I visit my chosen pet?

You are welcome and encouraged to visit your sponsored cat at Animal Aid. Our hours are Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday from noon to 4:00 PM All of our adoptable dogs and some cats are in foster homes, so please be sure to check on our website or give us a call to learn more about your sponsored pet’s location. If you are interested in adopting a Heartstrings animal who is in foster care, please complete an adoption application and a meet-and-greet visit can be scheduled.

Can I bring my pet a little something extra when I visit?

Yes, feel free to bring in a care package for your special pet (who will generously share treats and toys with their furry friends).

What happens if my sponsored animal gets adopted?

We know you are as happy as we are that someone has fallen in love with your sponsored animal, but it does leave a little hole in your heart. Not to worry, we can work with you to select another animal to sponsor! Please note: If you do not wish to continue donating to the program, any monies already donated cannot be refunded; however, you may discontinue your recurring payments.

What if my life changes and I have to discontinue my sponsorship?

We understand that life is complicated and unforeseen events can occur that may necessitate the end of your sponsorship. If this happens, please email us at contact@animalaidpdx.org and let us know you are no longer able to participate in the program.  No monies can be refunded; however, you may discontinue any remaining recurring payments.

What will you do with the personal information I supply?

We understand the need and desire of individuals to keep personal information private and protected. Please be aware that Animal Aid has a strict privacy policy that protects our donors’ information. Under no circumstances do we sell, exchange, or otherwise share the information you provide to us.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, Animal Aid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Upon receipt of your donation, you will receive an acknowledgement letter with the necessary documentation.

I have more questions about this program. Who can I contact?

If you do not find an answer to your question here, please email us at contact@animalaidpdx.org. We will get back to you as quickly as possible.

I left a message on the phone line and emailed you, but I haven’t heard back from you yet. What do you mean replying as quickly as possible?

We are very thankful for your interest in helping these special pets and make every effort to get back to you within 24 hours of your inquiry. Animal Aid has a small staff, and we appreciate your understanding and patience.
