ALL ABOUT ANIMAL AID

Animal Aid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue and welfare organization. Founded in 1969, we have dedicated the past 50 years and counting to passionately serving animals and the people they love.

We operate a free-roam shelter for cats, a foster program for dogs and cats, and The Animal Aid Cares Fund, a partnership with veterinarians across Portland to offer financial assistance for urgent medical or behavioral care.

OUR MISSION, VISION & VALUES

It is our mission to enhance the welfare of companion animals through individualized care and lifelong commitment, rescue and adoption, resources and education, and community partnerships.

Our vision is to be a recognized leader within a united local animal welfare community by working as a team of invested staff and volunteers to empower compassionate stewardship for thriving companion animals.

We value sustainability and accountability, compassion and respect, diversity and inclusion, leadership and teamwork, and supporter relationships and community engagement.

OUR ANIMALS

Animal Aid rescues, cares for, and adopts out both cats and dogs, with the mission of placing them in a home for life. Cats available for adoption live on site at our free-roam shelter or in foster homes. Due to our desire to not have dogs kenneled while they await adoption and the free-roam nature of the cats at our shelter, all dogs are placed in foster homes while they await their forever homes.

OUR LOCATION

Animal Aid is located at 5335 SW 42nd Avenue in Portland, Oregon. In July of 2017, we launched a full shelter remodel to improve and expand our operations and increase our rescue capacity by 25 percent. The remodel was completed in July of 2019.
